Tongue My Story!

Howdy all you wonderful chef and foodies!

I have been lurking on this board, but I thought I should introduce myself! I am a student at Stanford, but I have lived in Paris (miss the food and home cooking) and Texas!

I recently was informed that I was the runner up in the "What do you do with your pace?" recipe contest, but they didn't tell me which recipe won (I submitted six!!!). I have to wait for it to appear on the web page in a couple of days to find out.

I am searching for jobs after graduation this year, but I really want to go to culinary school at some point. I love making up recipes and cooking using unusual techniques or ingrediants. I see recipe contests as a challenge for my creativity. I am taking spring quarter off to work on my honors thesis, and I hope to work in a local restaurant to see if I seriously want to pursue any sort of culinary career in the future or just remain an amatuer cook!

I love reading all of your posts and stories, so I just wanted to say hi! and y'all are such rockstars on this board!

Welcome Stanfordchic great to have you. Wow how exciting to be finishing up your thesis. I am with Crudeau, finish that up, and if you have the time work at a great restaurant part time to see what it is all about.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact myself or one of the moderators.

Welcome, Stanfordchic. Great BB, isn't it? Tell us about Paris. I can't get enough of that city.

Everyone is so sweet!!!!!

I am planning on finishing...I just have to stop procrastinating on this thesis. I have 96 pages done and honestly I couldn't care less anymore if the media coverage of Elian Gonzalez affected the easing of trade restrictions on Cuba last summer. I was interested, but after about the 100th Congressional Conference report.....
If you want to know any political position on Cuba and trade for any Representative or Senator from 1996 to the present, I'm the girl to talk to!

Mezzaluna-Oh, how i wish I was back in Paris right now!!!! I miss Angelina's hot chocolate, l'Androuet's (the restaurant where they just serve you platters of cheese), and falafel specials (made with eggplant). I also miss home cooked meals-Salads that are only one ingrediant such as cucumber, beets, or carrots (avacado and mushroom combined if you were daring that night); Oven roasted potatos; pureed soups; couscous; fish; country bread with goat cheese or roquefort; oh and yogurt for dessert. I also miss this cereal that is carres fourres au chocolat which is like chex but the inside of each little chex is filled with nutella. my brother would spoon nutella into his cereal just to give it that extra nutella umph! oh and the pizzas with salmon.....i could go on and on!!! i think it's where i truly got into cooking!

Oh, by the way, did you realize there is a Paris in Texas! I think the similarities begin and end in the spelling!!

Ah, a fellow Cardinal! And I'm a newbie on this site too!

Stanfordchic, did you know that Judy Rodgers, the chef and owner of Zuni Cafe in San Francisco was also a Stanford grad? She was the 2000 James Beard Foundation Best Chef in California.

Good luck with you honors thesis. While I was never studious enough to attempt an honors thesis, I truly applaud your desire to get one. Definitely something to be proud of.
