hi everyone - i've just joined and wanted to say hello.

i live in county donegal in the north west of ireland and am a total foodie - i love cooking, entertaining, dining out, watching tv programmes about cooking, reading about food and cooking and now i've found a forum that looks to be full of like minded folks where i can join in chat about food.

looking forward to learning more and sharing ideas too.

I'm from Edinburgh and have been on a number of cooking courses at the Ballyamaloe School.

I used to spend childhood holidays in Donegal with a schoolfriend who was originally from Dublin and whose parents had a summer home near Letterkenny.

thanks for welcome ishbel. i live in letterkenny which is a lot different now i expect than it was a number of years ago.

i've never been to edinburgh but i heard a few times about a restaurant there called the witchery - it's near the castle i think.

i was in glasgow a few weeks ago and had lots of good meals out. scotland has come on in massive leaps and bounds with good places to eat and a lot cheaper than ireland too.

thanks for the welcome.

i particularly like french, italian and greek food. these are the foods i most enjoy both eating and cooking. i like the old french bistro style cooking for winter and have a great old book about bistro food that is great just to read and enjoy as well as to refer to. i also like making up different salads and dressings. and although i am not vegetarian i really enjoy making different veggie dishes too.

i am enjoying reading over past threads and there's some great ideas there and i hope i can add to the discussions too.

You'll love this site. I've received so much help and advise on everything including menu planning, wine selection, specific recipe requests, and gardening tips. This is a very friendly group.

I visited your area about 10 years. Gorgeous country! I have a cousin who lives in Milford and she was able to show us to our old family home, church, cemetary, etc. The house is no longer in the family and is sadly in disrepair.

We "discovered" our family after writing a letter addressed to Any McClure, Ballynashana, County Dongegal, Ireland. As luck would have it, the local post office was run by "our" McClure out of the back of the house. Since then we've discovered McClures in New Zealand, Australia, and all over the US.
