Smile glad to be here

Hello everyone. I am glad that I found this site.

I am a hobby cook, mostly at home for friends and family. I've come to realize that the kitchen is where I'm most comfortable and relaxed. I am currently considering culinary school in Chicago and changing my career path. I've figured if I don't follow my passion now then when will I?

Chef Talk looks to be a great place to gain a ton of knowledge and insight. That's what I'm hoping for. Any advice for potential career changers will always be welcomed.

Best,
Malcolm

Hello Malcolm, and welcome to Chef Talk. Your instinct was correct: this is a great place to learn, but don't be afraid to share what you know, too! I'm a home cook as well, and was hesitant to say much. But when I did, I found that what I knew was respected by others here.

What are your favorite foods to prepare? Was there someone who inspired you to explore cooking?

I hope you enjoy being part of this site.
Welcome!
Mezzaluna

Hello Mezzaluna,

Thanks for the welcome and the encouragement. I will do just that...when I figure out what I know that is. lol

I really enjoy cooking all types of food while incorporating flavors from Mexico and Italy primarily. I have some Asain items in my pantry as well but am yet to use them with much frequency...but hope to soon.

My inspiration comes from being tied to my grandmothers apron strings as a child. And also my father, while I wasn't raised with him in the home he is a retired Exec. Chef so I've learned quite a bit just from watching and talking with him during my adult life.

Currently, I am exploring the possibility of culinary school here in Chicago. Thinking about making my passion my life's work. Wish me luck!

Best,
Malcolm
