Welcome to Chef Talk, Fernando. You've it right- this place is the best! Tell us about how you came to the culinary world. I'm sure lots of people will be interested to know what foods, wines and recipes you're working with in Chile.

I just love how this site attracts food lovers from all over the world. I'm always impressed by how good everybody's English is, even down to colloquialisms.
Welcome Fernando,

Talking Thank you!

I would like to thank all of you for such a warm welcome!

Im really amazed.

Im sorry I didnīt reply right away but I had a busy week....

Itīs very nice to meet you all.

So....what can I tell you about me? Well... I guess I was interested in cooking since I was a little kid. then, during my first or second year of High School, I got into cooking class at a very known institute here in Chile. It was a basic course for International Cooking. Even though it was a basic and short course, it gave me the basics of cooking and whatīs more important: it made me realize that that was what I really wanted to do!
So, after a couple of years, I made my disicion of taking a serious step forward in that direction. I studied english for a year (to reach the level I needed) and by the end of that year I was speaking english A LOT better and I got out of High School at the same time...so I took my luggage and went to Canada to study a Chef Training program at St. Clair College.(a program of 1 year) .
I came back to my country in May of last year and started to look for a job, something to put to work al the knowledge I had gotten in school. Until I found a place where they needed a young chef. Knowing that I didnīt have the preparation requiered for such a a position, I went anyways...just for fun and to see what would happen. I presented a project they requiered to apply and...they chose me!! I couldnīt believe it.....

So, here itīs where I am...working for this little restaurant that hasnīt opened yet. Iīve been busy creating the menus and stuff like that. Iīve also had to cook demonstration lunches for the owners and their guests. (why lunches you may ask?...īcause in Chile, lunch is almost the most important meal of the day...).

I also chose my crew of people and everything. We hope will open doors next week! (This is going to be crazy!)

Fernando

Welcome to cheftalk, Fernando. I guess the restaurant has opened, because we haven't heard from you in awhile. When you return here, I hope you'll tell us all about it.
