Joan Liffring-Zug Bourrets photographs in this book were taken on a Seine barge trip in the company of friends, including Joans spouse, Dwayne, and the Hatterys, Don and Mary. Cover color photographs by Joan include the Eiffel Tower, a market scene in Melun, and the back cover. Market scenes in black and white are by her unless otherwise credited. The inside colorful back cover and several market scene photographs taken at Tence are by Myrene Hoover, an art teacher for many years. Listing of recipes includes: Hors d'oeuvres, soups, salads, vegetables, meat, fowl, fish, desserts, and other finales. The Eiffel Tower Alexandre Gustav Eiffel (1832 1923), an engineer and contractor, was known for wrought-iron lattices in bridge construction. He was awarded a contract to design the 985-foot tower for the Paris Exposition of 1889. Created from exposed iron, the tower was initially controversal, but became a world-famous symbol of Paris. Illuminated at night, the tower is beautifully reflected in the river Seine. The front cover view of the tower was taken from the deck of the Anacoluthe barge in the middle of the Seine. The Fleurs-de-lis Based on the iris, this design was used in the French coat of arms in the sixteenth century. The original French banner featured many fleurs-de-lis. The back cover of this book shows the fleur-de-lis in a castle window in France.
