I just received a wonderful gift!

Twenty vanilla beans! My friend Mel works for a flavor company. Today he came over with a ziploc bag of 20 vanilla beans. TWENTY! :) You know how much that costs? They're big and plump, about 8 inches long. All bigger and fatter than the ones you get from Penzey's. Definitely top quality. I don't know where they're from but I sure ain't gonna tell him no! :) :D

Wow... I can't believe it.

I've never had so many beans for personal use before. I used to just keep them in the cooler at work. These would probably last me at least six months. Do I have to do anything special to store them?

Wrap 'em tight. Don't let them dry out. Have fun, and tell us what you do with them.

That semipermeable ziploc bag won't keep them plump for long. They need a glass container, with as little air around them as possible, and a metal lid with a rubber seal.

P.S. Does your friend Mel want any other friends? ;)

Hook me up, I'm always looking for vanilla beans ;)

Yes, you should find yourself a glass tube with a rubber cap for a tight seal. It'll keep your beans for a good long while.

Wow! Twenty plump beans! Good on you!
I'm hoping to hook up with some to my trip to Melbourne Austrlia tomorrow.
