Which basil to plant?

I'm in the midst of buying my vegetable and herb seeds for the coming season :bounce: and could use some advice.

Last year I grew "Sweet Basil" from Territorial Seeds, but it seemed a little harsher than what I expected, not terribly "sweet." So which kinds of basil do you folks grow and cook with and why? And, if you work from seeds, what is your source?
Also, I do intend to try lemon basil. Does it work well in tomato-based pasta sauces?

I really liked the lemon basil I grew. It was just labeled lemon basil so I don't know the particular cultivar.

I lean toward the Fusarium Wilt resistant varieties or at least Fusarium tested so I get clean stock, just so I guarantee I can keep growing basil in future years.

With Richter's Herbs, I like the Genovese Special Select.

Hi Emily,
I posted a reply yesterday, but apparently it did not register.

I have a Klimagro indoor greenhouse in the kitchen window that I've grown several types of basil.

My favorites are Genovese, Queen of Siam, and cinnamon basil. I think we got the seeds from Morgan/Thompsen. The lemon basil is very good too.

ed hume seeds-on line only-sold a 'lettuce basil' that came up like little
butterhead lettuces, big crinkled leaves and nice and mild. try them-also,
the above mentioned richters seeds is a GREAT source for cooks.
this year im growing black basil. nice mild taste, on the sweet side, and
does double duty in the border as an ornamental with a white flowerspike in july-august.

Basil Dressing

Defiantly go the lemon basil. I love using my freshly grown lemon basil for a great recipe I have for a Lemon Basil Dressing. There is heaps of great stuff you can do with it. :chef:

I like the lemon basil like the rest of you. I looked at the cinnamon basil this year when planting my garden, but passed at the last second. I am a fan of thai basil and opal basil, the opal basil has purple leaves though, so isn't a good choice in all situations.
