Who are you? Where are you living? Town, county, district, region, state, provance, country? Where YOU specifically are, is there any history of special note? Was there ever a war, mill, crossroads that figured prominently in your areas history? Are you on a farm, or do you run you buisness from a shed out back? (<< NOT to dissparrage you, I know several people that do honey this way, since the hives are always onsite they only need a 14 X 14 shop to processes and bottle the honey and the wax)

These are all things that would be looked at in nameing your buisness. There are probably a few dozzen other questions that could also be asked. The next step is to google for your chosen name. And remember, all countries are not activly looked in on just google.com. so you will need to be agressive in your name search. After you are able to establish that no one else is registered or producing products under your name of choice, then you need to have a FORMAL name search performed. This will certify that you and you alone have the right to that name. You then trademark you broduct line and then selll it under that banner. That way no rivals can come along and simply take the name you have chosen for yourself, nor will you suffer the indignity of a suprise lawsuit from a companey that has decided to more their product in your area and OH NO they have the same name and theirs has a hundered year history!!

;) This is the FUN side of the world of business........NOT!

In the US, you only have to establish that that name is not in use in a similar business in that particular region.

A search in the city business records is sufficient and is generally done as part of incorporating the business. Now, if you're going to run this off of Schedule C on the tax forms without incorporating, you'll have to do the name search yourself. My local government business branch has a website that's pretty thorough.

BIG QUESTION.... what type of honey are you producing? tupelo, clover orange blossom, wildflower, a specific fruit? if you have more than one type of honey you can use several different names, another big question is are you going to bottle your honey raw? if you have questions about any of this i come from a long line of bee keepers. i am always happy to hear that there are other folks who want to do some "small time" honey production. if there is any way i can help with any information i will be happy to help :chef:

Well, only a matter of time till someone brought it up! I mean, talk about laying it at your feet! But honey is as honey does, and in that spinner, it does spew from the comb doesn't it...

I buy all of my honey from a a farm in Northern Wisconsin - their name has nothing to do with the honey - Talking Oaks Farm. Seeing as how you are making the honey yourself on your own property you can call it a honey farm. Thus my suggestions would be to go out on your property and pick something unique about it and name your farm. The talking Oaks Farm is just that - Last year I traveled up to see th farm and inquired about the name - As they are farm from any road, it is very peaceful up there. If you stand in the area in which the hives are located, the wind blowing through the trees sounds like they are talking to you. Thus the name. Good luck with the name
