I heard about this wonderful rotten (or whatever) mexican corn product and wondered how many here have tried it. Do you like it?

Sounds pretty nasty to me.

It's grey/black, it's fungus (think mushroom) and it tastes like sweet earthy corn flavored mushrooms. The farmers around here think I'm nuts, it's called corn smut and is essentially a major pest. I have one corn farmer that shows up with huit and hands it to me at the beginning of market. I keep telling him the return on selling huit is a whole lot more than selling corn......he still shakes his head and thinks I'm nuts. Aw well.

Nasty? Oh, no!! :lips: :lips:

Wrapped in a fresh tortilla, with a rich chipotle sauce . . . heaven!

What to YOU think of truffles?

had this years ago smeared in a burrito as a condiment with other stuff. had i known just exactly what it looked like naked and unadorned i would have never, never put it in my mouth. its sort of mushroomy-walnutty.

I think it's delicious. It's certainly not much to look at, but the depth of corn/mushroom taste is quite nice. Try stuffing chicken breasts, then making a nice cream or south of the border tomato sauce.
