I usually double or even triple this recipe (think it lies when it says makes 3 dozen!), and I have done it without sifting the flour and it works fine. Let me know how it works out for you!
Christmas Sugar Cookies
2/3 cup butter
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 teaspoons milk (heavy cream)
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Thoroughly cream shortening, sugar,
and vanilla. Add egg and milk; beat till
light and fluffy. Sift together dry ingre-
dients; blend into creamed mixture.
divide dough in half. Cover and chill at
least 1 hour.
On lightly floured surface, roll to 1/8
inch thickness.* Cut into desired shapes
with cutters. Bake on ungreased cookie
sheet at 350 degrees about 8-10 minutes.
Cool slightly; remove. Makes about 3
*Chill other half until ready to use
