I last worked as a short order cook a number of years ago. I am currently in graduate school and have been volunteering as a chef's assistant at a culinary school near DC. I have been urging to get back into a real kitchen, but not for money, just to learn more. My knife skills are pretty sharp, and I'd be happy even just prepping, learning more than I can on my own at home. What's the best way to approach a chef or someone to see if I could arrange something just 1 or 2 days a week, where i can help out for 5-6 hours at a time. Or would this be more of a pain than a help? What are your opinions?
