Chicago is sweeeeeet!

Last weekend my girlfriend and I went to visit her father in Chicago. We were only there for two nights so we didn't get do a lot. Saturday night, he took us to a French bistro typ joint called Bistrot Margot located near Piper's Alley in the Gold Coast area. It's a smaller place, but cozy. There were four of us and we all ordered different. My girlfriend's father ordered the strip au poivre and the sauce was right on! I don't normally go for any type of chicken dish, but I had to try the coq au vin. They served an entire half side of boned chicken (breast, thigh, and drum) in an earthenware crock large enough to accomodate with the usual pearl onions, quartered mushrooms and lardons with an exquisite interpretation of the wine sauce that makes or breaks the dish. The breast was dry and uniteresting, but the leg and thigh were wonderful and I let everyone dip there bread in the sauce so they could enjoy it. I would recomend this joint to any travelers to Chicago or residents that haven't been there yet and dig good French country fare.

I like Bistrot Margot, but my favorite French Bistro is Le Bouchon. Great little place!

I agree Le Bouchon is my favorite as well Pete. Have you ever tried his other place La Sardine?
