Personal Equipment and Tax Returns...

Do you guys deduct the money you spend on knives, tools, uniforms, and cookbooks as a business exepense on your income tax returns?

From what I understand some of these things are deductable from personal income tax if you do a long fourm tax (as opposed to ez). I am pretty sure any unifourm stuff (shoes, jackets, pants, etc.) are deductable. However, not so sure about cleaning, books, knives, etc. can be deducted from personal expensees (business yes).

Thanks for the reply blueschef.
I had been using the short form, but since I'm taking an accounting class this semester, I thought it might be "fun" to figure out the deductions etc. It would be neat to have the money I spent on my profession work twice.
Looks like I better hit that Tax Code...

You absolutely can deduct those items, (I do every year).

But you can't do the short form. You must itemize.
