Just posted elsewhere so guess I better do this. After learning some basics from my Mom I've mostly learned from books starting as a not quite starving student with more taste than budget. That was a long time ago and I'm still a non-professional learner. I found this site via Plonguer's posts at his own site and have been lurking for a bit.

Welcome, rph. We're glad you've found us and are enjoying the site. There's so much to learn here, and the members are great.

I'm also a home cook who learned from skilled home cooks. The "more taste than budget" comment struck a chord! Trolling the aisles of specialty markets and food stores can be very satisfying even if you can't actually buy the offerings. But a cook can dream!
