Chocolate Architects Wanted..........

OK, so heres the deal. Every year for the last maybe 4 years I have been in charge of the dessert menu for our annual cookout at work. Thus far all it has been is a couple of simple 2 layer cakes and maybe some cupcakes thrown in for good measure. This year I want to do something a little more over the top. A three tier cake, fondant covered maybe, but I want to make a backhoe and dump truck out of chocolate for the topper, maybe some crushed chocolate chip cookies for the dirt. Anyone have any idea how I could make these out of chocolate? Are there molds for these? Need to start practicing now cause I am already behind the 8 ball with this.:rolleyes:

Hey CR, pretty ambitious undertaking there. I'm sure you can find all sorts of molds out there, and people on the board with more up to date info might be able to help you there. I can suggest that if you're at all artistic you might be able to mold them by hand with modeling chocolate, or carve a reasonable facsimile out of a block of chocolate and then spray with couvature. Or you can make rudimentary cutouts of cardboard and then pour layers of tempered couvature, cut them out when semi solidified with the cardboard templates and put them together with a piping bag of tempered couvature. It doesn't have to be fancy if it's chocolate to wow them. Consider too that if your gathering is outside, chocolate and sun are not hardy bedfellows!

I appreciate your wanting to go "over the top" with this. But you can also accomplish the same thing with some very impressive smaller desserts that don't have to be the "same old thing". If you are interested I guarantee we can help you make a dessert menu that will blow them away with simplicity and style!!!

Hey CH I am definitely interested in that! I can come up with hundreds of desserts but my problem is I just do not know how to put them together in a reasonable facsimile of a menu. Still getting the hang of this menu thing if you know what I mean. Will proably be serving around 150 people give or take a few.The lunch will be served indoors as far as I know now. There will have to be at least one cake because they love my cakes for some reason or the other. I figure 3 maybe 4 more smaller entrees that can be prepared the night before would be good. But you come up with something and I am sure I will like it.Thanks CH....
Oh, almost forgot. I have this thing with the small fillo dough shells, you know the kind you buy in the frozen food section of the supermarket. Have been trying to come up with a dessert idea for these, maybe some kind of fruit in the center with a creme filling of sorts....

Go to http://candylandcrafts.com I can't be sure but I think they might have a mold there that may work for you. If not, I do believe they will custom make a mold for you. It's worth a try.

Tomric Plastics has a seven-inch dump truck mold for chocolate. I didn't see a backhoe, though. They can be reached at tomric.com, I believe.

I'm getting way too old. I remember things, but then I think, that's dumb, I probably didn't hit the post button. Thanks for having my back Chrose.
Not suspicious, I frowned and didn't like that because it confused my tiny little mind. Heck, half my post should be deleted.
I really need to go have about a hundred needles stuck in my head, and start pumping the brain stuff.
