I would suggest that perhaps a good "show" to do would be soups. Soups can be very easy for anyone to master, and they can lead to a myriad of dishes. Example; take 3 chicken legs/thigh portions, cut up an onion or two, a couple of carrots, a couple of stalks of celery. Put it in a pot and bring it to a boil. Turn down to a simmer, cover for 45 minutes. You now have a simple stock. You can take the chicken out and shred some to cool for chicken salad. Shred some more and cook some rice, you now have chicken and rice soup, omit the rice, add an egg and a little soy sauce and you have chicken egg drop soup. Add an eggroll and you have another meal. Use a whole chicken and you can make 5-6 dishes and eat for a week off of one chicken. Simple, economical tasty and diversified. You can do the same with a hunk of Chuck beef, vegetables, grains, etc.
