Can't beat Cook's Illusrated, and I also get their Country Cooking. Both tout their exhaustive research on each recipe.
We got Saveur for a year, but didn't do much with it. Recipes seemed a little too elaborate. I look at Wine Spectator at our son's house, but get almost all my wine at Trader Joe's. Just this morning they had Lindeman's Bin 80 Cabernet/Merlot red and their Bin 70 Chardonnay/Riesling white as a "special buy" for $3.99 each. Got a case of each. Should hold us through the weekend. :bounce:
If you feel adventurous, take a look at Chili Pepper magazine. They've been beefed up and are elaborately produced these days, and a lot of fun, with many good recipes and restaurant/regional cooking reviews.
