Question about copper

Hey, all. I recently purchased the Costco Kirkland Signature SS pans. They looked like a lot of pan for the money, and are very well reviewed on Epinions and other foodie websites.

This morning I tried out the 10" fry pan for the first time. I cooked a batch of breakfast sausage in it using just a bit of spray oil. I used medium-low heat, and allowed the pan to cool before washing it. I washed it first in regular dish soap, but the brown stains from the oil wouldn't come off. I then hit it with an SOS pad, and that got the brown off, but there were still stains that wouldn't come off. I'm going to try Bon Ami next.

The real reason I'm posting is the copper ring at the bottom of the pan. It changed color from copper to gold with copper splotches. Is this normal for copper cookware? I've never owned any, so I don't know.

Thanks,

-Joe

I am not a Huge fan of Copper... I mainly only use it for Sugar and Pastry.

Yeah, that's normal. Heat discolouration. If you want to pretty it up, take 1/2 a lemon, dip it in salt and rub, within seconds it'll be brighter than a new penny. You can also make a paste of vinegar, salt, and flour and rub this on too.

Like MAGIC! Thanks for that. Someone had told me that a looooooooong time ago, but I had forgotten it.

The wife still doesn't like the shape of them, so we may be returning them, anyway. We'll spend a few hundred extra bucks for All Clad because they're prettier. The things we do for love :smiles:
