Propane torch for broiling/browning cheese?

I know torches are used to camelize cream brulee. Is it safe to use a torch to broil cheese on the top of a canapé, etc.? I'm figuring it's okay, but though it was worth checking with some pros. I don't want to add any unwanted flavor or get someone sick.

Thanks.

I had a good triger start plumbers torch on the line for years, the things it is good for are endless.
