Are you using it in a restaurant, catering or cooking at home? If you are using it for business, you might be able to get one for free if you are willing to use the manufacturer's mix. I get free coffee and espresso machines by purchasing my coffee from the distributer. I pay a tiny bit more, but I don't have to worry about service or cash outlay.

Here's a site that mentions the plans for Carbon's: https://commercialkitchenproduct.com...eprograms.html

As far a my waffle needs go, I use two non-commercial machines, one I got at William-Sonoma for about $90 and the other at Target for about $40. Both seem to cook equally well and are holding up after 3 years. I don't use them regularly though.

I used one on a daily basis when I was night clerking at a Days Inn.

Several thoughts to consider:

1. That opening bid is ridiculous as they are only $500 new. And, as ShakeandBake notes, you can get them for free if using it for commercial purposes and you buy the mix and pre-measured cups from them.

2. Not specified in the ad is the fact you have to use a release spray with them, despite being non-stick surfaces. That's another cost element to consider.

3. If you are thinking of this for home use, there are lower priced makes and models with similar bells and whistles that will do the job just fine.

4. Unless you'll be making a lot of waffles, fairly often, there is no way to cost-justify this unit. For a restaurant, motel breakfast bar, etc. they are great machines. For the home???????

See...this is why I love forums like this!

Free waffle maker???? that's my kind of price!!!!:)

Is that FREE offer only to commercial businesses? Or do you think that offer applies to the general public too?

Just use their stuff in their machine and they give it to you free huh?...hmmmmmm I wonder what else this could apply to?....LOL

I doubt you could ever use enough consumables at home to take advantage of any such deal, Smokey.

I don't know what the minimum amount is from Carbon. But a bag of their waffle mix makes something like 10 quarts of batter, and we would average two bags every three days---along with a comparable number of pre-measured cups. That's a lot of waffles for a household.

What you have to understand is that these deals amount to being a lease, with the rental fee determined by the quantity of consumables. You never actually own the machine. It is loaned to you, based on the amount of consumables you buy.

If you buy X amount, there is no lease fee. X minus Y, and there is a fee of so many dollars. X minux Y+Z so many more dollars.

It's similar to those fancy point of purchase displays. If you buy enough of the product, they throw in the display for free. Otherwise you have to pay for it.
