vegetable stock...

i was wondering (out of curiosity) what exactly is the difference between vegetable stock and vegetable broth? both are sold in sotres, but they have similar ingredients to them, are they just the same thing? i always thought that a stock needed calogen, in other words bones, to be called a stock; otherwise it would just be broth, right? and obviously vegetables dont have bones, so what is vegetable stock?

AFAIK, they are both the same. The terms are used interchangeably. Which is more correct? I don't know.

Shel (up early to feed the cats and strain some vegetable broth).

Newbiechef, to me, they are the same. A rose by any other name thing.
Now when I make chicken noodle soup, I prepare a chicken broth with chicken bones and meat. And after Thanksgiving, I use the carcass and what little is leftover of the meat to make a turkey stock, which I freeze and later use to make turkey broth for turkey rice soup. So stock or broth, for me they both became soup. Delicious soup, I might add! :)
Now I just have to ask......is that your pet ferret??

broth vs stock

newbiechef...When we made vegatable broth in our kitchen we used chosen vegies, celery parsley, onoin carrots, parsnips etc.these were whole vegies used for the broth. for vegie stock we used all the pealings skins etc that we saved in a stock pot and when the pot or pots were full I made vegie stock. thus the name stock...good cookin...cookie
