Bachelorette Party

So we got this nice suite for 4 girls and I volunteered to bring the food. It's about 2 hours away, so we have to bring it all in the car.

I was wondering if any of you fine people have any easy, INERESTING ideas for appetizers that are room temperature and travel well. I'm sick of the veggies and dip and cheese plate that they always bring to functions. We have a cooler. I'm thinking about bringing smoked salmon and just serving it with bread and chevre. I also know that I'm making Butterscotch spike cupcakes with brown sugar buttercream. MMmmm. Or if anyone has a recipe for Dulce De Leche cupcakes, that would be neat.

I also have all day tomorrow to do it.

I know you guys won't let me down.

Oh yea, I also got hazelnut Kahlua, Toffee liquer, and Frangelico today. Maybe I'll save those for christmas.

A few ideas for room temperature apps:
  • marinated mushrooms (toss cleaned button mushrooms with a good olive oil/lemon/herb vinaigrette and let them sit for about 6 hours)
  • Popcorn tossed with spices or parmesan cheese
  • Spiced (sweet or savory) nuts
  • Fricos- cheese "crackers" made from baked, grated cheese

I like the baked cheese idea. I remember seeing packages of those during the great carb scare of 2001-2005 (roughly).

I've also changed the cupcakes to mocha spice. I want to throw some fruits in the party as well.

or
rolled sandwiches, .... asparagus rolls, or cheese and onion roll ups , or hummis and grated carrot

or
baby quiches,
or
fruit kebabs with marshmellows

Mixed green salad in a crouton basket topped with a poached quail egg - looks very elegant and tastes really nice.

To make crouton baskets, with a sharp knife remove the end crusts from a sandwich loaf. Cut into 4 to 4.5 inch thick slices. Trim off all the crusts. Carefully cut out centers. Rub each with a bruised garlic clove, and deep fry in hot oil until golden. Fill with sesonal salad leaves tossed in any dressing and top with a poached egg (Optional)

no - does not have to be served hot - you can dress the salad at the last minute - quails eggs are optional - very nice cold too

You can also make little salad cups out of the fricos- just mold them while hot over small cups, such as custard cups or souffles.
