New girl!

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and looking for some help with my love of cooking. I'm late 20-ish, married, a stay-at-home mom, in law school, and a amateur chef :)

I was seriously considering going to culinary school when my husband was discharged from the Army and we moved back home to Tennessee. Now that I have different life plans, I still wish to pursue my love of food at home. I was raised a southern cook -- meaning anything fried or that includes biscuits or gravy is game! But I truly love baking. I think I am a better baker than cook, and it's what I spend any spare time doing.

So, I will mostly be posting in the baking forum, but may frequent the other forums just for fun!

Thanks everyone and have a great day,
Marian

Hello Marian and welcome to Chef Talk. You'll find plenty here to add to your knowledge and to enjoy: cooking articles, cookbook reviews, recipes and the photo gallery in addition to the forums.

What are your favorite things to bake? Do you have a speciality such as pies, cakes, etc.?

Incidentally, my husband and I are part of a group of couples who've recently begun having regional/ethnic pot luck dinners. The next one is Southern American. I hope I can call on you for help when I know what my assigned dish will be. :lips:

We hope you visit and participate often. Welcome!
Mezzaluna

P.S.- I think what jigz369 means is, a chef is a professionally trained person, so "amateur chef" is an oxymoron. By your description you're a home baker and home cook (as am I)- be proud! :bounce:

Hello Marian- hello to everyone else. I too am new herer and have a remodeling question-

In the 36" range world - Viking, Thermador or Wolf? Heard some not so positive things about Vikling; Thermador on the other hand, I've only heard good things, with the exception of clean up. Seems like the sealed stainless is not so easy. Anyone have any advice?

Hello Mushin and welcome to Chef Talk.

You can find information here in several ways: first, you can try using the search tool (at the top of every screen) to find earlier threads about stoves and ranges. Second, you can start a thread in the Cooking Equipment Reviews forum, which is just for quesitions about such items.

We invite you back here to the Welcome Forum to start a new thread and introduce yourself to all of us. We'll look forward to it!

Regards,
Mezzaluna

I'm sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes. Sheesh. Maybe instead of "cook" I should just say I've been providing all the meals for my family since I was seven (?) I didn't realize this was a touchy subject.

And yes, anyone can ask me anything about Southern cooking. I will help in any way I can! :)
