Depressed and missing the kitchen...

A few months ago a combination of family illness, and accusations from my boss (who didn't even work in the kitchen) caused me to quit my job. Since then I have been working at a hardware store, for the simple fact it is the only job I have been able to find! I really miss working in kitchens, and I am starting culinary school in January, but I miss it so much. Anyone else have any advice? I like my job now, but I am not passionate about it. I go to work but I don't look forward to it. I miss working with food so badly and I am probably drivig my family crazy cooking at home all the time, haha. Any suggestions for this out-of-work-cook to keep his sanity?

Depending on your location, if you want to keep you hand in it you could volunteer at a soup kitchen. I know the one I cook at uses me to cook up the stuff the home cook volunteers don't want to use or don't know how to use.

South Central KY. A lot of smaller towns, that is the problem. Not a lot of jobs. I will have to begin travelng to a much larger town for culinary school in January so when my collar bone heals (broke it in a car wreck) I beleive I will try some places there, seeing that I will be there mon-thurs. anyway. This would make it impossible to keep my current job anyway. I will be going to school in Bowling Green, I assume that since you are from central ky, you know about where it is.

Southcentral, hmmmm.

In terms of cities that would put you near London? Or Somerset?

Or are you further east than that, like Middleborough?

Depending on time availability you should have no trouble finding a job once you're in Bowling Green. You'll be in the middle of a corrider running from Louisville to Nashville that's only two hours in either direction. The cave country is right next door. And it's only a hop and a skip to LBL.

The possible downside: Much of that region, when it comes to cooking and hospitality jobs, is seasonal in nature. But, still and all, if you look around I'm sure you'll find something.

Good luck in school.
