Is it common to drink the same if a food was cooked in that wine?

For example if I make a potato leek soup with chardonnay, should I drin chardonnay with it?

Or would I want to use like a Pinot Grigio in the soup and drink chardonnay, or use chardonnay in the soup and drink Sauvignon Blanc?

TIA

If I use wine in a dish, I usually stay in the same flavor profile with the wine I drink with it....so yes, if you use chardonnay, drink it, etc.

But that's just me....I'm wondering what my somalier friend would say, lol. :)

Unless you use the whole bottle, what else are you going to do with the remainder?

Save it for cooking at a later time. If not used soon after opening, wine can be frozen, and defrosted wine can be used in cooking with good results.

LOL

Back to abe's question, we used to call that "cheater wine pairing". But at home, if the recipe only calls for a cup of wine and there's just the two of us and it's casual, we'll find ourselves doing that sometimes. But I think life gets a little more interesting when you don't, and you crack another bottle.

I like my old VacuVin vacuum pump for keeping opened wine fresh. Although like shel and shakeandbake, I don't need to use it that often.:D
