making a simple syrup stringy dome???

i want to make up a simple syrup...i guess i need to bring it up to a certain degree....then string ice it off the thin tip of a wooden spoon onto the back side of a bowl.....let it dry and then just lift it off and poof i will have a dome to put over a dessert? how does it release from the bowl, do i need 2 spray the bowl first...is the sugar heated to a hard crack temp first? whata the ratio for sugar/water /vanilla? just going to practice this here at home with my daughter in a few days....did i read somewheres to ad a bit of butter to the mix?? great forum guys...ty all..

It's known as spun sugar. If you Google it, you'll find the method. It's pretty straightforward. I moved this thread into the non-pro forum, because I think this is something that other amateurs might like to participate in, and I assume you're not a pastry chef.
