opposing blades in a slicer??

Hi, I've researched this to the bitter end myself but can't seem to find an answer... an exam questions was: why do blades in a sling machine go in opposing directions when slicing? My books and the internet all say that the blades go in the same direction. Does anyone have any help?

Sling machine

Whats a sling machine?
Generally opposing blades keep the product stationary and do not shoot it out of the unit.
Let me know what sling is!
