Strange knife!

Thread Starter
I have bought a new knife but i can't use it for the purpose for which i bought it i.e. to cut. When i start to cut, the knife slips on the food or twists in my hand. Sometimes, the knife doesn't even cut - it crushes the food instead. i have tried several time to sharpen it but all useless. I am fed up of using all these stupid kind knifes. Can you suggest me anything to get rid of this problem.

What did you buy specifically? If it turns out to be a quality brand with a knife tha slipped through qc, then you should return it. If it's junk, then it should be junked.

Do a search here on sharpening. Many threads, lots of great info.

Lastly, what are you cutting on? Many cutting boards are terrible for knives. Glass, stone, reclaimed solid surface counter top material and more. Only two materials are worth cutting on. Wood and plastic. They'll protect your knife edge as it does the cutting.

I'm not big on poly (plastic) boards. They dull a knife much faster than a end grain wood board. The other board worth mentioning is the Sani-Tuff rubber board - as gentle as wood.

just to have some examples of bad knives.
