Suggestions for Kitchen Scale

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
I'm looking for a reasonably priced kitchen scale. The requirements and preferences are:

Able to set tare weight;
Weight given in ounces and grams;
Digital would be ideal;
Not too big or heavy;
Available in many designer colors :lol:

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated. Thanks!

Most electronic scales now have all of these features. No one, certain brand name comes to mind, and I've seen pricing anywhere from $29.95 up to $100.oo.

Keep this in mind however: The more accuarate the scale you want (fractions of ounce/milligrams) the less total weight the scale can handle. Most scales in the price range I mentioned usually handle up to 2lbs/1 kg and are accurate to 1 gram.

Escali makes a perfectly fine scale, called the "Primo", which meets all of his criteria, including designer colors, which retails for about $25. It measures to 5 kg (11 lbs), with an accuracy of 1 gram. It's silly to get a scale that only measures one kilo, and which doesn't have decigram (0.1 g) capability, as that's the only advantage of a small capacity scale.

Do a search on Google; I found a Hoehnle scale, 11 pounds, accurate to 1/10
ounce, for about $40. Several styles, all extremely stylish. (If you like Contemporary.) I haven't noticed any Early American scale styles. :roll:
