Hello all..

I am currently 22 and am a senior at college majoring in psychology (BORING!!). Everyday in class I dream about being in culinary school and cooking.

I LOVE cooking and I LOVE food. Whenever I get the chance I cook at home. Unfortunately I do not have any real restaurant experience.

I live in Brooklyn, NY so I was thinking about ICE or FCE... but I do not know the cons and pros of either or.

I am also searching for ANY restaurant in the city that would take me under their wing so that I can learn and work for FREE!!!

Any suggestions and advise will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Paul

Good luck to you. You only go through life once so don't waste time doing something you don't really want to be doing. I live in Canada and I don't know about those schools, but culinary school is a great way to learn the basics and make some friends along the way. It's not the only way to a career in culinary arts however. There are restaurants that will train you or let you apprentice. (In these situation they are actually paying you to work there while you learn). It's really up to you. If you have a clear idea about what kind of cook or chef you want to be and what type of atmosphere you want to work in this will give you some direction.
