Finger Foods!!!

Thread Starter
My mother and I adore finger foods more than just about anything else in the culinary world. They are easy to eat, you can have many different flavors in one sitting, and they are just about the perfect food!

What are some of your favorite appetizers and finger foods?
We need some more ideas.
It's a wonderful thing to be spoiled in the way of food.

Ditto the stuffed mushrooms (from scratch is the only way to go -- crab meat and cream cheese is YUMMY, as is herb and ricotta, bacon and cheddar, et cetera... get creative)!

I like to make crostini with different toppings, depending on what other foods are being served. (Whenever we have a party, these are the first things to disappear.) Classic bruschetta topping or an olive tapenade are always good... To be a little different, sauteed mushrooms (I like a mix of button mushrooms, shiitake, and crimini) with garlic, onion, very slightly wilted spinach, and pine nuts are delicious.... and to climb a little further outside the box, try diced avocado, Anaheim chile, onion, pepperjack cheese, tomato and cilantro, broiled just long enough to melt the cheese.

Also, plain rustic bread and a mix of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic and herbs for dipping is a good starter.

Let's see what else...

Pita chips and hummus

Pita chips and just about everything else...... Mmmmmmmmmmmm, pita chips!

Pancetta-wrapped asparagus

Nachos - I usually serve them family style as a meal when I'm at home, but they can be topped individually and served as an appetizer. (I'm talking about frying the chips from scratch and using real cheese -- none of the pre-packaged junk -- you can get really creative with a vertical presentation using fresh pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, black beans or refried beans, jalapenos, etc)

Onion rings, cut HUGE and served with a variety of dip. I make my breading with Rice Krispies (whizzed in the food processor until they're about the size of bread crumbs but not completely powdered), flour, garlic salt, and a tiny bit of smoked paprika. Dredge the onion slices lightly in plain flour to absorb moisture and lay the foundation for your breading to stick, make an egg wash, and coat them twice in the flour/rice cereal mixture. Freeze in a single layer to set the coating, then deep fry until delicious. This is also what I use for chicken wings.

This is making me hungry... will add more as I think of it :-)

I'm just kinda thinking here -- I want to try this when I get home tonight -- what about doing a popper/chile rellano type application with those small, assorted sweet peppers, and some sort of Mediterranean twist? Garlic/feta/mozzarella/herb filling perhaps?

I did something similar with leftover gyoza wrappers a while back... made a spinach, feta, sundried tomato, garlic, herb, and mozzarella filling and they were AWESOME.
