Question about Gas Stove

Thread Starter
I grew up with electric stoves and have been around them for over 25 years...never really cooked on them..mom did that :) But I recently bought a house and it has a fairly new (maybe bought in 2002) GE 4 gas burner/oven unit. I do not know much about cooking but am really enjoying it. I boiled water last night and when it did, a little splashed over; it actually made two holes that were producing flame go out. And after I waited a while and they dried, it finally worked again. Is this something common to gas stoves? I suppose the remedy is to make sure nothing ever boils out of the pot...any hints?

Sounds pretty normal.

I have a cleaner who is manic about spraying a variety of cleaning stuff about the place. in particular the gas range. she invariably clogs up the gas jets from time to time. It's not a problem. they sort themselves.

I hate electric ranges. Had to work with one when i first started out and couldnt afford to change. Gas is so much more controlable dont you think?
I wouldnt worry about spilling stuff on the gas jets. Just move to another ring while you get that one cleaned.

My gripe is staff who boil something over and continue to cook on the same ring. They dont enjoy being the one to strip the burned on gunk off the range to clean it though
