Hey everyone! I've just found this site and have already found lots of information. I come from a medium-low income family and still live with my parents while I'm going to community college. A little over 2 years ago I took over the household cooking duties from my mom and have come to love it. I'm pretty sure I want to attend culinary school and make it my career. I've been reading a lot about what it's really like to be a chef, so I think I have a realistic view of what to expect. I'm hoping to be enrolled in the culinary school I've decided on(Oregon Culinary Institute) within 2 years. I'm going to start a restaurant job search soon, but I haven't worked in one since I was 16, and I'm not crazy about most likely starting as a dishwasher.
