A Not So Simple Question - Page 2

So as to avoid naked veges, eh? BDL, have you tried gado-gado? It's to-die-for.

I like Indonesian food, so yes. Never been to Jakarta though.

We've got a little problem 'round here because Linda and I went to some down-home country Indonesian joint, a few blocks from our hous, a couple of years ago, and we both ordered food that ended up being way too hot for her -- and she has a pretty high tolerance. So, since then it's been a non-starter. I keep telling her that it's not all like that, there's plenty mellow to be had, but not happening.

It's so odd, because our favorite Indian restaurant (Ashoka the Great in Artesia) starts with a couple of vindaloos as the mild buffet offering and moves on up to a few phals. You'd think anyone who likes vindaloo and is capable of enjoying a few bites of phal wouldn't be phased. But it's her palate. What am I going to say? "Sorry honey, you're wrong?" I don't think so.

Anyway, she's goes along to some of the Mexican dives I like. Jacalito, our mutual favorite, puts a salsa on the table she can't eat but it's still her favorite place. Good sport with an open mind and an adventurous palate. Best not to push it too hard.

Gado-Gado's good. But have you ever had mojarra ala diabla?

Forgive me for rambling, we went to an all-you-can-eat Asian buffet for Lunner and I ODd on seafood. I'm still giddy from the sea-cucumber with mushroom and vegetables.

Hmmmm if Vindaloo is the mild starter, that's a heads up.
