tried this thing. It was interesting. Not as inedible as I thought it would be, much closer to cake than the blob of goo I was expecting, but I wouldn't call it a fine culinary experience (not absolutely horrible though). The thing is my kids had a ball with it. It is fast, & something they can do on their own, relatively unsupervised, spur of the moment, not make a huge mess, spend a ton of money & still feel like they have made themselves something more involved than instant pudding.
The problem being, this means in all likelyhood, I will be getting quite a few "surprise" cakes to eat (lucky me). So, does anyone have any suggestions on how to tweak this thing to make it more edible while still retaining the basic concept? Will a little more flour help or a little less or using buttermilk or something simple along those lines that the kids can do. My daughter loves it the way it is... & I am pretty sure I have created a monster... the child is 8. has plans... I am afraid...
4T flour
4T sugar
2T cocoa
1 egg
3T milk
3T oil
splash of vanilla.
3T choc chips (optional)
mix dry ingredients in a coffee mug. Add egg & mix well. Add milk & oil & mix well. Add chips if using. Microwave (1000 watts) for 3 minutes. Let cool slightly. Dump out of cup, eat.
