Hey all,
I have been cruising the forums and have come across a lot of posts about "culinary schools" and so fourth and was wondering what the proccess to becoming a chef in different parts of the world are?

In Australia we can just call up an establishment and ask if they have any positions available for an apprentice, An Australian apprenticeship consists of 4 years of on the job training whilst attending one day a week at a commercial cookery course at an institute called tafe (Similar to American collages I believe).

Tafe isn't very expensive, I think about AUD$500-$1000 per year for an apprentice but in saying that we only make about AUD$250-$300 per week for anywhere between 38-60 hours a week.

So could members from other parts of the world please explain your proccess, Thanks
