I've seen a copy of their massive wine book, humoungous! In the 1970's Bern's was known to have some of the best steaks in the US as well as the largest wine list. We really don't read about it much anymore.
Possibly one of the best I have ever been to. The Dessert room upstairs is also very nice, but a bit pricey. In a terrible neighborhood ,but they watch your car Valet only. Waiters are not allowed to serve customers unless they have worked every station for 2 years total. Ask them for a tour of kitchen. Each steak cooked at a different station. Live fish in huge tank in kitchen.
Bring a lot of $ but worth it. Wine list about 7 pages from $25.00 bottle to $25000.00 bottle.
My family was a supplier to the Laxer family in the 60's and 70's. When I graduated from my apprenticship Bern invited me into his library to choose any book as a gift along with dinner for myself and my family. It was quite the evening, one I still remember to this day.
Oh and the steaks are out of this world!!
