How did you get into the culinary field? Who was your first, greatest influence?

Thanks for the welcome. A number of California chefs and restaurateurs stimulated my interest in cooking, and, after meeting them and a couple of others, including some cookbook authores/chefs, I decided to try my hand at the profession. I cooked in a few places, and decided I'd rather cook for myself and friends.
