How can I obtain Red Seal based on hours worked

Hi,
I have been working full time as a line cook (all stations) for the past 6 years. I am interested in obtaining the Red Seal, however due to family obligations I do not have the money to pay for the course. I've heard that it is possible to sit and write the exam only (without having completed the course). Is this true?! If so, what is the name of the book(s)? Also, where can I take the test? I live in Toronto.

cheers:confused:

ITA - Training Programs

This is a copy of the bc version i used to challenge the exam. You've got to find the ontario equivalent.

Basically, you fill it out, along with copies of your hours worked, pay your money & they'll schedule a date for you. As to where, they scheduled me to a local location where a bunch of others were taking ITA exams.

Be forewarned-if you're not in school, get the books from a friend or local university & study. They throw alot of info at you on these exams. Really obscure dessert questions almost did me in.:chef:
