Average Entry Level Wage in NYC Restaurants

Hello all happy to be here!

I would like to know what kind of wage to expect to be offered if I consider a entry level chef de partie position at one of the following restaurants. Le Bernardin, Esca, Babbo, Jean Georges Restaurant, basically any restaurant with the same reputation as the above estblishments.

I'm considering relocating back to New York in the next year or so and would like to have a game plan for organizing my finances. If I know how much (general wage) I will be making at one of these places this will help me prepare financially for the move.

Appreciate all responses.

Cheers,

John

John, a buddy of mine worked at Daniel's for 9 months....saucier.....pay was abyssmal $1200 month. It was considered a learning experience. He put in time as chef d' cuisine at an American Place for 2 years and is now exec chef of a great high end place, less than a mile from my home!

from what ive learned from friends experiences, whenever you get into places like you mentioned, shroomgirl said it best.. its a learning experience, being able to put their restaurants name or the chef you worked for on your resume is "pay enough". So i would expect a person to have a really budget their money especially if living in a big city like NYC.

Thanks for the repsonse. I figured it wouldn't be much but then again I'm not going there for the pay. My initial plan is to land myself a Stag for 1 month, sublet an apartment, work in the kitchen, see if the kitchen will work for me and work for the employer, then decide if I can afford the move. The key is getting in the door and having the Chef allow you/me to stag.

I certainly do not want to disillusion you. Getting a start job in NY and Florida is difficult right now. So many experienced guys out of work . They are willing to work for less at another place, therefore hurting your chances. The restaurants are all discounting and lowering prices, and giving coupons.
Banquets and xmas parties are down.
Here in Florida just as bad if not worse" Mar A Lago " Trumps premier club, had 4 reservations Tuesday Evening, where I work PT only 21 Its bad even for the money crowd. I thought gas going down would help, but it didn't.
