Fitting a Santoku in a Wusthof block?

Hello, this is my first post so thank you for allowing me into what looks like a fine community.

I recently bought my first set of knives, Wusthof Classic and it came with their 17 slot block. I have come to realize that while my girlfriend and I cook together we are often waiting for the chef knife to be swapped back and forth.

I was looking at picking up a Classic Santoku but i don't knw if the 7" will fit into the block along with the chef's. Does anyone know if this will work or do I need to get the 5"?

buy yourself a wall mounted magnetic strip.. its much more sanitary than the wooden blocks where who knows what lives in those deep and gloomy knife slots.

I would buy a wall mount except that I rent and I cant put anything into the walls. It makes for a very art-less place.

i was also thinking of maybe getting the Shun Classic 7in Santoku so would either the Wusthof or the Shun fit?

u can purchase ones that you dont have to drill or damage your wall at all. basically they stick on with a strong adhesive. problem solved

When I used to regularly work a station I would keep my knives in a block, have an extra one just for that purpose.
Whether a santuko or my favorite cleaver, if my knife wouldn't fit a slot I would just lay it on the back slope, the handle keeping it from falling.
Not a perfect solution, but one that let me use the knife I wanted instead of a knife that fits.
Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

I had the same problem and bought a Kapoosh at BB&B. It's a knife block made up of a square section of long plastic tendrils that any kind of knives can slip into, arranged any way you like. Google tells me they sell them at Target and some other big-boxers too.

The Kapoosh is a cool concept but too small, only for 8" knives. At least all the ones I've seen.

Get a magnetic strip to hold your knives on the wall and mount it with double-sided sticky tape. Lee Valley has a couple of good mag strips, and they're available in a lot of other places.
