Hi Chefs,

I have just become a statistic  , so I need to dust off my resume and start job searching. I hear competition is tough these days (its been a while since i have had to actively seek work. I want to put together a website of my work and resume. Dont have a lot to spend. The only sites I have seen so far for chefs to build their own site are ezchef.net and chefwebs.net Has anyone used either of these? Heard of any others? Ezchef.net looks a little basic, chefwebs.net looks prett good but would like to hear some advice before I commit? Thanks

I recently signed up with chefwebs.net and have been impressed. The templates look very professional and are fairly easy to set up. You dont need to be a techie. I like being able to store all my recipes/info and pics in one place - looks good when you go for interviews. Goodluck!

Q: Do Employers actually look at individual websites when considering employees?

OK so I don't have a degree in HR or Office Managament, and I know those people get all white knuckled and shallow-ragged breathing when they can look at some applicant's website. Then they pass the buck off to the Chef or Dept. head, who finds out in the first 1 hr if the applicant is any good or not.

As an employer I never bothered to look at applicant's portfolios. The guy may be great, or he might have got the pictures from a variety of places. With the internet, the odds of material on resumes not being original work is multiplied significantly. So why bother?

You will always have the odd person abuse an opportunity. They will be found out soon enough. It is useful though to have a website when applying for a job overseas. It's the first step in creating a good impression and getting yourself an interview. The internet is becoming more and more important and many chefs want to build a presence on the web. The more robust and interesting a website the higher it will feature in the search engine, so it is worth putting in a little effort. Just look at how social networking (for professionals) has exploded!
