Victoria Australia Fires

Thread Starter
R.I.P. to those who have lost their lives, friends, relaltives, houses, livelihoods in the bush fires in Victoria on Black Saturday.

And the worst to those who lit the fires....I hope they get their justice.

Some info for those who may want to know...

ABC News - 2009 Victorian bushfires - Latest news, photos, video, audio, maps, eye-witness accounts, emergency information, live audio

The facts that are coming out are horrendous, tales of 9 people gathered in one house, encircling a baby to try and say its life at least....the fire came thru with such unbelievable ferocity that.... well... the circle stayed closed, but the people became fused together around the baby..... what horror.

My sister lives in NSW and has a second home near the border. Her daughter lives in Melbourne and has been overcome with heatstroke twice.

My heart goes out to those who lost family, friends, pets and their homes.

I remember about 10 years ago, my sister's second home at the Bay (not her present house, but in the same area) was right in the path of a bushfire. It stopped less than 20 feet from her boundary fence.

My husband and I were thinking of going for Christmas 2009. My sister has persuaded me that it would be folly, if the patterns of recent years is anything to go by. I am totally unable to cope in high heat - last time I was in Sydney it was 39 degrees - and I nearly expired. Everything was a chore - sightseeing, eating, swimming.

I'm grateful to live in a temperate climate.
