Sugar doesn't go bad. Butter and cream cheese both have excellent built-in detectors. If it doesn't smell rancid (butter), and isn't moldy (cream cheese), it's okay to eat.
I'd still throw it out though. Too long is too long. Even if it doesn't make you sick, it will taste like a cross between stale butter, stale cheese, and the refrigerator. No thanks. Look at it this way: You're not throwing out food, you're gaining space in the refrigerator.
