Is this still ok to eat?

I was cleaning out my fridge yesterday and came across a 1-quart container of cream cheese frosting I made about 2 months ago. Main ingredients cream cheese, butter, sugar, no eggs i don't think. I'd hate to throw it out, is it still safe to eat?

If it was well sealed it is probably still safe to use. You can always take a small amount out, warm to room temperature and taste.

Careful. Few years back we had this guy ask a question about some canned pate. We never heard from him again.

Sugar doesn't go bad. Butter and cream cheese both have excellent built-in detectors. If it doesn't smell rancid (butter), and isn't moldy (cream cheese), it's okay to eat.

I'd still throw it out though. Too long is too long. Even if it doesn't make you sick, it will taste like a cross between stale butter, stale cheese, and the refrigerator. No thanks. Look at it this way: You're not throwing out food, you're gaining space in the refrigerator.

I've never really had a case of butter going bad, and I've kept it in there for a couple of months sometimes. I think I will throw it out lest I go the way of the pate guy.
