Assistance with baking in commercial facility

Thread Starter
I am attempting to start a cake baking business baking chiffon cakes - some with a glaze and some without.
I want to start the business doing everything the "correct" way with insurance etc.
I have already registered my business as an LLC

The state that I live in (NJ) is extremely strict and will not allow me to bake out of my home or anything that is attached to my home. I want to sell my cakes to restaurants, cafes and caterers. In order to do this I need to bake out of a commercial facility.

Since I do not know how many cakes I will be able to sell I am in no way prepared to take a space and renovate it to code etc. I suppose it is catch22 - but I cannot go out and find clients without a place to bake. The worst thing that could happen would be to turn down a new potential client!!

I am at a loss at what to do.:( I have baked for some friends and the response has been extremely positive selling about 50 cakes without advertising over the last 3 months of last year. :chef:

I cannot find any space to rent time in a commercial facility. If anyone can provide me with some advice and guidance as to what steps I should take - I would be most grateful. I am extremely eager to get things up and running. (already have a business plan in the process)

You should start by working in a bakery.
This will allow you to see how business is run without spending your money.

It's a great way to get into the corridor of the business you would like to run.
bake first, ask questions later.
Oooh food, my favorite!
