Hi Folks, I have just started out in the catering business, an opportunity came along to buy a licensed kitchen, there is a gap in the market for traditional british style pies overseas I have always enjoyed cooking so why not give it go, like most things in life done well, they look easy enough, but when you start to ask someone to pay for your produce it has to be right, very right so I am hoping you guys and girls can give me some help and support with a big big please and thankyou.

Hello senyatta and welcome to Chef Talk. We havew a good many Brits here, including my 'sister' moderator, Ishbel; I'm sure you'll feel at home.

I hope you have a look around at the features of the site: blogs, photo gallery, cooking articles... the list is long! Enjoy the cooking forums, too. Although you've indicated in your profile that you cook at home, I'm sure you qualify to post in the Professionals' forums. You'll particularly want to look at the Catering Forum. Our search tool can help you locate earlier discussions on topics of interest as well.

Please come and participate often. Welcome!

Hello there!
I'm from Scotland - and I agree, traditional British pies (whether Scots, English, Irish or Welsh) are great - and don't get enough publicity!

Where are you based nowadays? What type of pies do you like to bake? We have wonderful pies in Scotland - mutton pies, steak pies, bridies and others, too!

Hi Ishbel,

Bonnie Scotland !!!!!! A fellow scot, I am from Stirling originally but for the last six years I have been based in Malta, although I have always cooked from an early age, pastry based products I avoided until about a month ago and boy it has been a massive learning curve, but loads of fun too, there is quite a large expat community in Malta so they are my target market initially, so I plan on cooking a lot of scottish and British fayre, really quite excited by it all, but so far so good, where are you based, where do you come from ?

I'm from Edinburgh, but I know the area around Stirling quite well. We've friends who live in Aberfoyle.

I know Malta quite well, too - we have family members living in Naxxar and Mosta as well as Valetta. We even looked into buying a place near Armier!

Sma' wurld, eh?!!
