I've read about how moms make their kids' lunches soooooooo cute. Like this, I guess. Are there books that tell you how to do that?

Sadly, yes, there are. LOTS of them. It's an industry. There are also lots of websites. And if you go to a kiddie park, not a playground but where they have those "rides" that you put a coin in and it goes back and forth, generally when you put in the coin you get a little card that shows how to make a bento that looks just like some character associated with the "ride" -- like an Anpanman character or something. It's ubiquitous.

Fortunately, my son only gets a bento once a week, so it's easy enough to dress up a burger as a dinosaur or whatever.

It's cuter if you make octopuses out of them. You cut them sort of like when you clean leeks, to make the tentacles, and then you put a little piece of nori or hard-boiled egg white or tomato skin or something on to be a headband (Japanese cartoon octopuses always have headbands).
