About this forum:
“Camping” is one of those baggy words; you can put anything into it you want. A backpacker spreading his sleeping bag on a lonely ridge is camping. So, too, is a family renting a camping cabin at a private campground; and fishermen pitching a tent on a far shore; and an elderly couple in a megabucks RV.
This makes camp cooking a nebulous term. It can mean the kinds of foods cooked by each of those campers. It can include a shore lunch made from fresh-caught fish prepared right on scene. And it can include the dishes prepared at upscale hunting and fishing camps.
Camp cooking also means the fish, game, and foraged foods gathered while camping, even if they’re cooked at home. And it includes the specialized methods used to assure that the harvest of the earth makes it home in the best possible condition.
All of this and more is what we’ll be discussing here at The Camp Cook.
