Hello all. I just found this forum. How fantastic. I am a recently laid off person in the IT industry who loves to cook. So with time on my hands, I want to try new things. I am getting some wonderful information on this board. I look forward to a long relationship and lots of suggestions from everyone.:talk:

Hello, Sally! Welcome to Chef Talk. We hope you take some time to take a look around at all the great features of this site: blogs, photo gallery, cooking articles, and much more- oh yes, the discussion forums! Home cooks like you and I can learn so much from the professionals her- as well as from each other.

We seem to have a good number of IT people here. Some are doing as you are, others are moving from a culinary career to IT. Someone could get a thesis or dissertation out of that phenomonen, I'm sure.

What do you enjoy cooking? How did you learn what you know? Many of us learned from relatives, dorm mates or just by experimenting.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I learned my basics from my grandfather mostly, but also grandmother and mother. Then just branched out on my own. As for what I like to cook best, I keep finding new things. I like warm comfort foods in winter and have been getting more creative on the BBQ this summer. I am open to trying almost anything. I will look forward to the forums and advice from members. Thank you.

Im from Oregon as well,up in Washington County.
I too am trying to start a home business baking but I am so Bummed because I found out I have to have doors up in my kitchen..... : (

Hi Sally, welcome.

You're going to be so inspired here. I'm sure you've figured that already. On that score, I personally find that really inspirational, best loved recipes come from moving outside your culinary comfort zone. Ie. I used to absolutely hate eggplant, till i found a gratin dish that sounded tempting. Now i'm an addict
