Art Institute

Hey,

brand new to this game, and I was wondering about the Art Institute in San Diego. I took the open house and it look pretty impressive but the price is really high. So far, while I was doing research I found no other school that offers a degree in Baking and Pastry. I read the forums, you guys say degree over certificate is the way to go.

I also saw that you guys also are saying that even though AI boasts the whole "When you graduate from here your a chef" you are not considered one till after many years exp so does that mean that the degree isnt really worth much at all? or is the degree for future advancement?

Really the question is... is AI worth the money for the degree? Is the degree worth anything out in the baking pastry world?

Thank you!

Degree are great if you are an accountant or doctor or dentist. But I know a lot of people who have a BS or AAS from culinary schools that can't cook. It takes many years of on the job experience. When I applied for chefs positions they did not even ask what schools I had been to, they were only interested in experience.

Instead of giving my opinion of AI, I want to ask you what you want to do with your career? Have you ever worked in the food industry? What are some of the businesses that interest you in your area? Have you asked them what they look for in an employee or if they attended school for this?
